Abu Bakar Ba`asyir is accused of having financed terrorist training activities in Aceh province, the prosecutor said on Monday at the first court session on his case.
"Ba`asyir transferred money totaling Rp180 million and US$ 5,000 to Ubaid who then gave the money to Dulmatin," prosecutor Andi M Taufik said here on Monday.
Andi said the amount of money was used to buy weapons and ammunition worth RP325 million. Among the weapons were nine Armalite (AR)-15, four Avtomat Kalashnikova 1947 (AK)-47,two Avtomat Kalashnikova 1958 (AK)-58, six revolvers, a Challenger and a Fabrique Nationalle Browning.

The prosecutor added Dulmatin and his friends also bought 19.999 rounds ammunition, 41 rounds for AK-47s, seven for M-16s and 45 for AR-15s.

In is 93-page charge report against Ba`asyir, Andi also said the defendant had met Dulmatin and they discussed military training for their friends.

Meanwhile, Ba`asyir`s lawyer, Achmad Michdan denied the accusations by the prosecutor that Ba`asyir had made killing and robbery halal for the sake of Islam`s struggle.

"It`s all not true. Ba`asyir doesn`t even know Dulmatin," said Achamd.

Ba`asyir has been charged with seven articles of premier charges of the Article 14 juncto article 9 the Law No. 15/2003 on Terrorism.

Ba`asyir, leader of the Al-Mukmin Islamic Boarding School located at Sukoharjo, Central Java, was caught in Banjar, West Java, on August 8, 2010.

He had been accused of having received routine reports on bombing plans in Indonesia.

The would-be targets included star-rated international hotels, Western embassies, police and military offices in West Java, and even President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

In October 2004, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison for conspiracy over the 2002 Bali bombings, in which 202 people died. But after serving 26 months, he was released and cleared.

Born in 1938, in East Java, Ba`asyir has spent decades teaching Islam, and became influential among radical Muslims in South East Asia.
