Flood inundates over hundred houses in Riau

A flash flood has inundated over a hundred houses at Pawan Village, Rambah sub district, Rokan Hulu (Rohul) District, Riau Province, following the overflowing of the Pawan River.

"More than 100 houses in two neighborhoods were inundated but this time the flood was not as bad as last year when the road to other regions was cut off," Pawan Village Head Ismed Daulay said here on Monday.

Deforestation in the hilly upstream areas of the Pawan River m has worsened the flood triggered by incessant heavy rains over the past few days.

12 dead victims of Kartanegara collapsed bridge identified

Twelve of 13 bodies found following the collapse of Kartanegara bridge in Kutai Kartanegara sub-district, East Kaimantan, had been identified.

"Tonight two dead victims had been identified by a team of doctors at Parikesit hospital in Tenggarong," a command post member at the hospital, Nurhayati, said Monday night..

The two identified victims were Robiansyah (13) of Teluk Dalam, and Rusmini (30) a mother of two who had already been identified, namely Alisyah (six months) and Alisha (9) of Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, Loa Kulu sub-district.

Death toll in collapsed tenggarong bridge reaches 13

The number of dead victims found at the location of the collapsed bridge in Tenggarong, Kutai Kertanegara, East Kalimatan until Monday afternoon reached 13, a provincial administration spokesman said.

"One of the victims was found wedged in a car just below the bridge that collapsed on Saturday afternoon," spokesperson of the incident command post, Nurhayati said here on Monday.

Ten of the victims have been identified namely M. Fairuz,22, Agus,25, Alisyah (six months old), Fadlan,17, M. Iskandar,35, Samsul,24, Supriyadi,31, M. Huzairi,40, Erli Erlianah,39 and Alisha,9.

Meanwhile, four injured victims were still being treated at the Parikesit General Hospital, Nurhayati said.

In the meantime, President Yudhoyono had ordered the related parties to investigate immediately the cause of Saturday`s collapse of the Kutai Kartanegara bridge.

The 700-m long bridge over the Mahakam river in East Kalimantan province collapsed at 4.30 pm on Saturday causing a number of vehicles to fall into the river.

Police admit misconduct in dealing with recent Papua congress

The police have admitted that some of their personnel had acted out of line in dealing with participants of the Third Papuan People`s Congress in Abepura recently.

"Some of our members had overstepped the limits of proper conduct in dealing with the Papua Congress people. But these officers have been held to account by our Ethics Council. They ignored the law when carrying out their security duties," the head of the National Police`s public relations division, Inspector General Saud Usman Nasution, said here on Monday.

The police officers concerned, 15 in number, made procedural mistakes when they dispersed the congress but they had now been given sanctions, Saud said.

The cases of the 15 erring police officers were handled by the Police`s Ethics Council in four sessions.

"The first session involved four members of the Mobile Brigade of the Papuan regional command and two of them were given a written reprimand, two others were put in solitary confinement for 14 days," he said.

The former chief of the Jayapura city resort police was processed in an ethics session on November 22, 2011 and given a written reprimand.

Seven other police officers have also been given written reprimands. Five petty officers meanwhile were processed on November 23 and given seven days in solitary confinement and written reprimands, he said.

"The city resort police chief was the responsible one and members have been processed through ethics sessions and given punishment depending on their activities when enforcing the law against the attack on the legitimate government on November 19, 2011," he said.

The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) following its investigation on October 23-27 into the incident connected to the 3rd congress of Papuans concluded that the police had violated procedures when dealing with it.

ASEAN prepares statistical data integration

The statistic offices of ASEAN member countries will strengthen coordination and cooperation in realizing more effective and harmonious statistical data integration.

Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) spokesman Suryamin said that the statistical data integration was the theme of the annual regular meeting of ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS) Committee in Jakarta on Wednesday.

"In this meeting we are going to discuss the application, definition, and the materials in statistical field that is relevant to ASEAN level," Suryamin said.

He said the main focus of discussion in the ACSS Committee meeting is to improve the quality of statistical data in various fields namely merchandise trade statistics, statistics of trade in services, foreign direct investment statistics, and the millennium development goals indicators.

"We will consolidate and collect data over a wide range of important indicators and then combine and coordinate them through ASEAN Secretariat," Suryamin said.

China deports 5,000 N. Korea refugees annually

China repatriates about 5,000 North Korean refugees each year even though they often face harsh punishment on their return, South Korean activists said Tuesday.

North Koreans who make the risky journey across the border into China only to be returned to their homeland face torture, imprisonment and even execution in extreme cases, the activists said.

"It is believed that the number of repatriated North Korean refugees reaches 5,000 per year," said Kim Suk-Woo, a former vice unification minister who now works for a rights group in Seoul.

Small Mt Lokon eruptions still possible

Mount Lokon in North Sulawesi province still has the potential of producing minor outbursts after its eruption at 17.19 local time on Wednesday (Oct 26), a Mt Lokon observation post officer said.

"Small eruptions can still happen judging by its continuing seismicity from day to day," Farid Ruskanda Bina, head of the Mt Lokon observation post in Tomohon, said here on Monday (Oct 31).

He said signs of the presence of bottled up energy in the form of deep and shallow volcanic earthquakes were still being recorded.

Railroad bridge in labura broken down

A railroad bridge in Babussalam village, Marbau sub-district, Labuhan Batu Utara regency, North Sumatera, cannot be used after it broke down following a strong flood on Tuesday.

RI govt repatriates overstayers from Saudi Arabia

The Indonesian government has repatriated 1572 Indonesian overstayers in Saudi Arabia using hajj empty flights which divided in groups since October 30, 2011.

Most of these overstayers entered Saudi Arabia using their working permit visa then ran from their employers while some others entered using their "Umrah" (Muslim?s Pilgrimage) visa who then work illegally, said the Information, social and culture consul at the Indonesian Consulate in Jeddah Cahyono Rustam, in an email to ANTARA received here Wednesday.
